The Latino Population in DuPage County:

Issues: 

·        300% Hispanic population increase in past 14 years

·        5^th largest county population percentage in Illinois

·        Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Hispanics 1-44 years old 

·        Heart disease is # 1 killer of Latino women 

·        Hispanic children less likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than whites 

·        Latinos most likely to drive without seat belts due to of cultural differences 

Overarching need to: 

·        address the modification of cultural differences that contribute to unsafe behaviors

·        increase awareness in the  Latino community of their own personal safety needs

·        promote available resources in Du Page County thru partnerships in an effective and efficient manner
