Participates in "Make A Difference Day"
“Make-A-Difference
Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a
celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. On October 28 this year,
everyone helped in the Village of Woodridge….the residents, the
police department and the fire department. The day’s theme was
The Power of Prevention!
At 9 a.m.,
numerous
teenage volunteers, members of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District,
and the Woodridge Police Department’s Community Resource Center hit
the streets with a common goal – assisting the senior citizens of
the community. Making their request by phone or via the Fire
District or Village website, the seniors’ homes were visited with a
multi-prong purpose…smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors,
internal home safety and inspection, and external clean-up fix-up.
Numerous households throughout the village were recipients of the
Make-A-Difference team.
Volunteers armed
with rakes, shovels, blowers and bags attacked outside conditions
too extensive for the senior residents. Simultaneously, firefighting
crews installed life-saving smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in
homes lacking, replaced batteries, hung extinguishers, and discussed
safety and exiting essentials. The day-long efforts were coordinated
by Village of Woodridge Community Resource Director Bridget Johnson,
with Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Battalion Chief Dave Kruzil
responsible for the firefighting forces.
Generous donations by
Dr. Russell Fu,
DDS, of Woodridge, and Chicago Metropolitan Fire Prevention Company,
of Elmhurst, IL made it possible to provide this program at no
cost to the residents.”
