LWFD Joins in MLK Celebration

Members of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District joined with nearly 100 residents on Monday, January 15, 2007 to attend the first annual Children's Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. at St. Scholastica Parish Center in Woodridge. Numerous presentations were made by children who gave readings emphasizing the need for tolerance and respect during the 90-minute celebration.  The LWFD Honor Guard and Pipers presented the colors at the opening of the ceremony. Through a menu of oral interpretations, a choir performance, a poem, a quiz on King's life and a final recital of King's now-famous "I Have A Dream" speech by Joan Leslie, the message was reinforced.  The program was the work of Woodridge Community Resource Director Bridget Johnson, who organized the inaugural event.
