LWFD Honored with Life Safety Achievement Award

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District has been honored with a Life Safety Achievement Award for the year 2006 which was presented by the Residential Fire Safety Institute (RFSI). For the past 14 years, this award has recognized local fire prevention activities that contributed to reducing the number of lives lost in residential fires. The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District qualified for this award in 2006 because it recorded zero fire deaths in structures during that year.

“We are proud to receive this award,” said Fire Prevention Bureau Chief Jim French. “It is a tribute to the District’s strong emphasis on fire prevention programs for all of its residents and, in particularly, those programs directed to its senior citizens and children.” In announcing this award, Roy L. Marshall, Director of the RFSI, echoed this statement when he said, “Experience tells us that fire prevention activity and public education can significantly reduce life and property loss from residential fires. Prevention and education are very cost effective compared to the traditional approach of relying on fire suppression. The Life Safety Achievement Award recognizes fire departments for their fire prevention efforts and encourages them to continually improve those efforts.” Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Fire Prevention Bureau’s Public Educator Lt. Jay Caron said, “It is a good feeling to know that all of the many hours we put into education and fire prevention program development has not only given us the honor of receiving this award but, more importantly, has substantially increased the safety of our residents.”

For further information on this award or any fire prevention programs, please contact the Bureau at 630-353-3030.
