Structure Fire - 2536 Waterbury Drive

At 04:22 hours on Friday, 11 Dec 09, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District was notified by way of an automatic fire alarm from a building reporting a fire and was dispatched to 2536 Waterbury Drive, Woodridge.

A General Alarm assignment was immediately dispatched sending four (4) engines, two (2) ladder trucks, two (2) medic units, and Command Team to the scene, for a minimum of 25 Lisle-Woodridge Fire District personnel.

The first unit arrived on the scene at 04:31 hours and reported heavy smoke.  After receiving notification of trapped occupants, emergency crews upgraded to a box alarm, requesting additional assistance from surrounding fire departments due to the type of occupancy and the life hazard.  First in crews reported heavy fire conditions on the third floor and attic area. A second alarm (2/11) was requested by command moments later.  An aggressive interior attack with hose lines was initiated as well as an immediate search for occupants. Two successful rescues were made and victims were transported to local hospitals.

The fire was under control approximately 60 minutes after the Fire District’s arrival; however units remained on the scene until approximately 09:35 hours performing salvage duties and overhauling the burned areas of the structure. The building was determined to be uninhabitable. The occupants are making their own arrangements for lodging with assistance from the Fire District.

Lisle-Woodridge Fire District units were assisted on the scene by the Argonne, Darien-Woodridge, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Lombard, Naperville, Romeoville, Warrenville, Wheaton, and York Center Fire Departments. Additional companies from these departments provided coverage at Lisle-Woodridge Fire District stations that were vacated to fight the fire.

The alarm was struck out at 07:00 hours.

The DuPage County Arson Task Force fire investigation team is on the scene investigating the cause of the fire. No further information is available at the time. Additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available. If you have further questions, please contact Bureau Chief Jim French at 630/353-3030.
