Household Risk Analysis
Today’s fire and
emergency service departments respond to millions of calls each
year. The majority of these calls are to single-family
households located in rural, suburban and metropolitan areas
throughout the United States. In 2003, the National Fire
protection Association reported that fire departments responded to
388,500 reported home fires, resulting in 3,145 deaths, 13,650
injuries and causing more than 6 billion dollars in direct property
damage. In 2004, the Home Safety Council reported an average
of 91,000 individuals die each year from unintentional injuries: 20%
of these deaths occur in the home.
With this in mind,
the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District has developed a checklist that
highlights steps you can take to provide a safer living environment
for your family. If you have any questions or concerns while
completing this checklist, or if you would like a firefighter to
assist you in completing this checklist, or reviewing the results,
simply call the Fire Prevention Bureau at (630) 353-3030 to have
your questions answered or to schedule an appointment.
